In a Hospital (Private & Public Hospitals)
When your friend or loved one passes on in the hospital,
- Get the Certificate of Cause of Death (CCOD) from the doctor or nurse who attends to the deceased.
- Contact The Resting Place Pte. Ltd to assist you in undertaking the Bereavement Services.
- Decide if you would want to have a cremation or burial for the deceased.
- Proceed to any Police Divisional HQ, Neighborhood Police Center or Neighborhood Police Post to register the death of the deceased. You will then be given a Certificate of Registration of Death.
Remember to bring the following items when registering a death:
- Certificate of Cause of Death (CCOD)
- Identification documents of deceased (eg. NRIC / Passport / Birth Certificate / FIN Card)
- Identification documents of informant (eg. NRIC / Passport / Birth Certificate / FIN Card)
Unnatural Cause of Death
Should the doctor be unable to certify the cause of death, or if the deceased died as a result of unnatural causes (eg. Complications resulting from surgery, a fall prior to hospital admission, accidents, etc), the doctor is required by law to refer the case to the Police / Coroner.
The family will identify the body in the presence of the Coroner and he/she will review the case and determine if an autopsy is required to determine the cause of death. Thereafter, the family will be informed by the Coroner his/her decision and the time to collect the body for the funeral.
Contact The Resting Place Pte. Ltd to assist you in the collection of the body when the body is ready to be claimed.
Remember to bring the following items when the death is undetermined:
- All medical documents belonging to the deceased
- All medications consumed by the deceased
- Identification documents of deceased (eg. NRIC / Passport / Birth Certificate / FIN Card)
- Identification documents of informant (eg. NRIC / Passport / Birth Certificate / FIN Card)
When a friend of loved one dies at home:
- Contact the family doctor who has been attending to the deceased
- Contact any neighborhood doctor who is willing to make the house call when the family doctor is not available.
- Contact The Resting Place Pte. Ltd. to undertake the bereavement services and ask them if they could provide a doctor to certify the cause of death when the family doctor or a neighborhood doctor is not able to assist in the certification of death. The doctor (be it the family doctor, neighborhood doctor or the one provided by the Funeral Home) will certify the death and issue you the CCOD.
- Decide if you would want to have a cremation or burial for the deceased.

However, if the doctor is unable to certify the cause of death, you will need to contact the police who will send the body to the Center for Forensic Medicine (CFM) Mortuary for a coroner to decide on the next step. Thereafter, the family will be informed by the Coroner his/her decision and the time to collect the body for the funeral.

At Home (During/ After Office Hours)
The Resting Place Pte. Ltd is a one-stop bereavement services company. By this, we mean what we will assist you in every aspect of arranging the details of a funeral wake services. All you need to do is to provide us with the following items and we will handle the rest of the process:
- The ORIGINAL Certificate of Registration of Death
- A decent picture of the deceased
- The deceased’s clothes
All you need to do is to inform your friends, relatives, church pastors or priests of the wake services as well as the Town Council of your use of the void deck / multi purpose halls. There may be a charge by the Town Council with regards to the usage of the void deck / multi purpose halls due to the use of the electricity, water services, and cleaning up services after the funeral service. In the case of private condominiums and estates, the management of the private properties will need to be informed. Everything else is taken care of by yours truly.
Do remember to bring along a photo copy of the Registration of Death as the Town Council may ask you to produce supporting documents for use of the premises.
We will, on our part, arrange the following:
- Setting up of tentage at HDB Void Decks / Multi Purpose Halls / Open Areas or arranging for a Parlor
- Arranging the cremation time slots and / or burial time slots
- Providing Floral wreaths
- Photo Enlargement Services
- Sound systems for the wake services
- A caterer whom you can talk with to arrange the supply of a buffet or hot food cooked at the premises.
- A drinks supplier who will furnish you with an assorted range of drinks and tidbits, as well as a portable toilet.
- A stone carver to assist you in arranging for a tombstone or a niche/urn.
- A member from the SPH services to visit you personally (saves you the trouble of traveling down to the center) and assist you in putting an obituary in the papers should you consider having one.
- Should you have a problem in finding a pastor / priest to conduct the funeral services, we will help you to find one
